Vomiting (also called emesis) is not a disease but a symptom.

In children, a variety of conditions can cause vomiting, the most common of which is viral infection of the gastrointestinal tract, or gastroenteritis (also known as “stomach flu”).

Emesis may be caused by many things, including certain smells, irritation to the stomach, infections, stress, pain, motion sickness, migraines, certain medicines, some diseases or conditions, and brain injury or concussion.

It can also be a symptom of some cancers and a side effect of certain cancer treatments.
